Would breaking up a time release pill make it release instantly?

I've got this supplement and I accidentally bought the time release form. If I were to crush it up and put it into water or something and drink it. Would that make it not time release?

It depends on how the time release is incorporated. If it's a solid tablet, odds are that, no, crushing wouldn't help. The reason: binders are included in the formulation of the tablet that makes it difficult to counter. (This type of formulation is typical now for some drugs of abuse, such as oxycontin and morphine CR).
If it is a capsule with small granules inside then, yes, it may be possible to counter the coating by crushing.
All that said- assure first that the dosage in the long acting formulation is the same as you would be taking if the supplement was IR (immediate release).
